bagless robotic cleaning devices Smart Sweepers

Bagless smart sweepers offer many advantages, including a clean disposal and fewer maintenance tasks. A bagged model is better for those with allergies or who prefer to clean their hands.

A bagged vacuum cleaner allows for easy, mess-free garbage disposal. It is usually equipped with a bigger bin that can handle a greater amount of dirt when cleaning.

1. iRobot Roomba j7 Combo Plus

The iRobot Roomba j7 Combo Plus is one of the best bagless electric robots you can purchase for vacuuming and mopping. It comes with the same navigational capabilities as the top-rated Roomba V7, but also adds mopping and the base automatically emptying the dirt collection bin.

Its most impressive feature however, is its ability to stay clear of obstacles. It takes photos of objects it comes across during mapping and learns which areas they are in your home, so it can instruct the robot to clear or stay clear of them. The app can be used to create maps of your rooms and to identify specific areas you want it to stay away from. The j7+ can send you a photo of every obstacle it's encountered, which lets you mark them as either permanent or temporary avoidances.

In our testing, it was able to navigate a wide variety of household obstacles without getting stuck or chewing off cords and shoes as previous models. It even gave pet waste a wide berth (although it did get caught in socks and baseball caps). It was also very effective at picking up larger spills, crumbs and other messes.

This robot can be programmed to mop and vacuum on a regular basis, which is great if you prefer mopping for your floors. We tested it in our home which is mostly hardwood floors, with the occasional area rug, and it did a great job of cleaning both surfaces. The mops took longer than we'd prefer, but it still left the floor looking remarkably clean.

It can also climb on flooring with high pile, but it may struggle to get rid of small particles. It has some problems with pet hair, but is still superior to some of its competitors.

2. iRobot Roomba j9 Combo Plus

The j9 Combo Plus robot is the top of the line Roomba. It is compatible with carpets and has the most advanced features from iRobot. Dirt Detective is among the smartest features. It can be set to repeat cleaning passes and will scan your home to determine which rooms are prone to dirt. It also comes with a self-cleaning station that automatically empties debris bags and fills the tank with water.

The Combo J9's simple design combines black and silver. It features a single-button that can start cleaning, as well sensors for wall follow and an indicator of status. A flap on the back of the unit lifts to reveal a bracket which holds the mop plate. The plate is double-surfaced rubber roller brush with an edge-sweeping, long-haired brush. It can be removed to make cleaning easier. iRobot also includes its new SmartScrub feature, which mops hard floors in a circular motion with constant pressure to provide a more thorough clean. The robot will also raise up the mop pad on rugs and carpets to prevent getting them wet.

In our tests, the Combo J9 proved a powerful vacuum capable of removing large amounts of debris. It did a great job of following furniture, stairs and walls. It was unable to remove pet hair and dust on carpets that are soft. It was able to maneuver around obstacles but took longer to complete its cleaning tasks than other robots.

The advanced features of the j9 vacuum cleaner sets it apart from other. With its app, you can make an agenda that will clean specific rooms at specific times, view your cleaning history, and get the health information of the product. You can also access advanced settings, including the ability to customize the suction power of your device and more.

iRobot DreameBot

The iRobot DreameBot is one of the few smart sweepers that have mopping capabilities. It utilizes a 4.2-quart tank in its base to soak its mop pads. Additionally, it frequently returns back to the base to wash away dirt and clean the pad. The DreameBot is also more sophisticated than the majority of mopping robots that we tested and uses its lidar to map and modify rooms as it goes. Its AI-powered obstacle avoidance system worked well in our test room. It avoided cables and socks without getting confused. It did have some difficulty with a pile of Cheerios, though.

The app provides the highest level of customization and control. It lets you define virtual no-go zones as well as dynamic cleaning zones for rooms or floors. It also has a large amount of suction power at 4,000Pa, easily outperforming the combined 2,000Pa of the Roomba 13 and Bissell SpinWave. The battery has a large capacity, with 5200mAH, which gives you plenty of clean time.

As a bonus, this model is iRobot OS compatible, meaning it gets updates to its software from the cloud as soon as they become available. The app also offers the option of sending specific images of any obstacles it encounters to the servers of iRobot which aids in improving its algorithms. iRobot claims that it only utilizes images of users who have opted for this user-involved training and that they do not use them for any other purpose.

The DreameBot's physical controls are limited, with the majority of options available through the iRobot Home app or via Alexa and Google Home. You can manually select a particular spot to clean or start a general cleaning, and you can enlist mopping or vacuuming in a single cycle. The app also allows you to set up the schedule for daily, weekly mopping and vacuuming cycles or a manual one.

iRobot Narwal

The Narwal is a smart sweeper with a mopping system that does not require storing bags. It's a bit more expensive than the Roborock S7MaxV ultra however it comes with a number of advantages, including superior vacuuming performance for carpets with low pile and rug, as well as a more robust mopping and self-cleaning station.

As with many of the robots in this category, the Narwal can be controlled through an app and can be programmed to clean on the basis of a schedule. The app needs a serious overhaul, however, because it's confusing, and often provides cryptic directions to complete tasks.

Incorporating a floor plan into the Narwal app will help it determine where to go. Once you've completed that you can begin bagless cleaning robots by pressing a button on the robot or its base station. A voice prompt will provide you status updates, and a display on the base station will keep you updated on the job's progress and the battery's level.

When you hit the mopping button, two rotating pads are deployed and the Narwal will travel to the furthest point of its map, and will begin scrubbing. It's a highly efficient scrub, applying 12 newtons to the pads while they spin. And it only takes 16oz to clean the surface of a medium-sized room.

Between mopping runs, the robot returns to its base station, where it rewets and rinses the microfiber pads. It can also wash its own pad brushes. This is a great option for those who would rather avoid cleaning products. The Narwal utilizes dirt sensors to identify areas that require more focus. Its smart mapping technology can also be adjusted for different surfaces.

iRobot Pro Q5

The Q5 Pro is a mid-range Roborock product and is lower than the S8 Series. The Q5 Pro uses PreciSense LiDAR navigation to move around your home in a timely manner and a DuoRoller brush that scrubs away dried-on stains while cleaning. It also features a larger 770 ml onboard dustbin and auto-emptying docking station to reduce manual maintenance tasks.

It has a suction force of 5,500 psi, and a dual roller brush that is able to pick up pet hairs and dirt from carpets, without getting caught in. It can also be controlled through the Roborock app, which comes with several other helpful features like setting digital keep-out zones, rapid cleaning mode, and modifying the cleaning patterns.

Despite its incredible performance, the Q5 Pro has some drawbacks. It can become entangled with small items like power cords and tends to bump into furniture or knocking items off shelves. It's also easy to manually correct these errors by using the Roborock application. It also doesn't include any advanced mopping features such as a rotatable roller or front-facing obstacle detection that the S8 can offer.
