This Roomba's advanced navigation system combines iRobot's top-of-the-line Precision Vision navigation with a camera that recognizes household objects and obstacles. The cameras let it avoid common barriers, such as cords, shoes, socks backpacks, pet toys, and perform customized cleaning around them. The Combo i5/i5+ features the exclusive Dirt Detect Technology, which helps it pay greater attention on dirty areas.

The robot's auto-emptying Clean Base can store up to 60 days of debris and it reduces the requirement for manual maintenance. It also has a recharge-and-resume feature that will send the robot to its homebase for charging whenever its battery is exhausted. It then picks up where it began.

While the I5+ is an excellent robot for homes with a lot of space It's important to keep in mind that it's not built for rooms with carpets or stairs. It also has a limited dustbin capacity, meaning it won't be able clean the entire house in the event of a large amount of trash or pets. If you're seeking a Roomba that can handle more demanding environments, look into the I7 or i9 models. These models are better equipped to take on stairs and can also be used to mop wet areas. With cutting-edge technology and an innovative design the iRobot Combo i5/i5+ is the ideal option for homes that require both a vacuum and a mop.

iRobot Roomba Combo i7

This premium model comes with high-end features and top-of-the-line performance that will draw buyers away from the vast majority of low-cost competitors. The most notable upgrade is the automatic dirt disposal that eliminates the need for a dustbin after every clean. Another feature is persistent mapping that allows the i7+ to remember your home's layout and adapt to different floor plans on a dime.

The Combo i7+ has a simple setup process, with an on-screen guide that walks you through the initial registration and setup. Once the robot has been registered, you can use the iRobot Home app or voice commands to tell it to vacuum or mop. The i7+ is also easy to program by allowing you to program cleaning times and set virtual boundaries for it to adhere to.

In our tests, we found that the i7+ was able to climb over floor breaks and other obstacles easily. It was also able detect obstacles such as furniture without a problem, but it wasn't able to get over a two-inch marble slab that separated the kitchen from living areas. Its edge cleaning was also much better than the results we got from the budget robot vacuums with a firm grip on corners.

When the i7+ has reached its maximum capacity, it goes back to its Clean Base and empties its contents. It then prepares for the next clean. When it's time to add cleaning fluid, you simply press a button on the side of the robot, and the small water tank/dustbin combo clips open.

The only real downside is that the Clean Base occupies a lot of space. This makes it difficult to store the i7+ in the cupboard when it's not being used. This is a common issue with robot cleaners. Most manufacturers offer smaller charging station which are smaller. Those stations also typically fit under cabinets which makes it easier to cover the iRobot while it is not being used. iRobot has reached out to us following publication to clarify that the Combo i7+ is designed to be used only with the manufacturer-approved cleaning solution (sold separately). It is not recommended to use water as this can cause damage to internal components and decrease performance.

The robot vacuums and mop at the same time by using its stainless steel arms to catch dirt and debris as it moves. It also lowers its mop pad when it sees carpets to avoid getting the rug wet, which is a nice feature. This feature, called Dry Rug Intelligence by iRobot was a great success during my tests and was a huge improvement over the earlier Roomba models that could only vacuum or mop without changing modes.

The app also has "robot health" information, like how long your iRobot can run before it requires a new pad or filter. There are also detailed instructions, troubleshooting suggestions, and advanced settings for adjusting the mopping water level and the number of mopping cycles per floor, and much more.

The new navigation system from iRobot helps the i8 navigate around your home. Additionally, it can get around obstacles such as power cords with ease. The navigation system also recognizes different floors and adjusts its cleaning routes according to the floor. If you have a large home, the i8 could require multiple runs before it is finished mapping.

This robot also works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This means you can control it using your voice, which is very convenient for busy people. This feature is very useful for those who need to clean their homes often and efficiently.

The i9+ also does an excellent job of picking up pet messes, with the one caveat is that it may miss some of them when you have very deep litter boxes (we've observed this issue on other robots too). It also does a great job of removing pet waste with the only drawback being that it might miss a few when you have very deep litter boxes (we've encountered this issue on other robots too). The i9+ also is one of our favorites for cleaning bare floor surfaces. It's effective in removing various debris, without leaving streaks unlike other models.
